It is very important to make sure your candle is ready to be lit before running into anything hazardous. House fires can be caused by candles if not properly observed by someone.
- Before lighting the candle makes sure the wick is ¼ inch at all times.
- Place candle on a flat heat resistant surface where there is nothing flammable around.
- Have the candle away from all open windows, drafts, pets, children, and anything that can fuel the fire.
- Keep lit candle away from curtains, under shelves, and on the floor.
- Burn your candle for only 2-4 hours at a time in a ventilated room.
- Always have your candle observed by someone.
- When done using the candle you can either lightly blow out the candle or use a wick dipper to put out the flame. You can also use a snuffer to put out a candle.
- Completely stop using candle when wax reaches ¼.
- Before moving candle to a location make sure to have it fully solidified.
- When candle is fully done use boiling water to remove the excess wax and clean the jar and lid to reuse.
How to fix candle wax from tunneling and uneven surface?
Always see If the wax is even before lighting a candle to prevent uneven wax and sinkholes. You can use a heat gun to even the wax or fill the sinkholes before lighting a candle. When using a candle let the pool fully melt before blowing out the flame. If candle has a small pool and you blow it out, the candle can cause sinkholes and uneven surface. Add aluminum foil around the edges and make sure to leave a little hole in the middle. This way over 3-4 hours you will have the surface of the wax even out as you light it up.
